Team of the Week: Bowie
The Bulldogs (12-0) are still perfect, completing a 6-0 week with wins over Round Rock, Cedar Ridge twice, LBJ, Lockhart and Waco University. Bowie won its own tournament with the last five wins, defeating Cedar Ridge in pool play and then again in the championship game. Bulldogs coach Celester Collier said his team had a great team effort, with the bench playing well and great individual performances by Coleton Benson, Riley McIntyre and Ethan Walker.
Honorable mention: Westlake
The Chaps (14-1) won their second tournament of the season by taking four relatively easy wins in the Anderson Classic. Westlake beat San Antonio Holmes (69-36), Kingwood (54-36), Cypress Falls (65-36) and Rockwall (68-41). KJ Adams scored 25 against Cypress Falls while playing barely more than a half.
Player of the Week: Max Smith, Anderson
Smith, a senior guard, is a big reason why the Trojans are off to a 10-3 start. He’s averaging more than 18 points per game, and helped Anderson to a win over Westwood and a 3-1 showing in its own tournament last week.
Trojans coach Daniel Pittsford noted senior guard Blake Spiller also had a good week, averaging more than 13 points per contest.
